Pyengana Cheddar Truckle
I love my cheese but I was very disappointed with this cheddar Truckie. The cheese was really difficult to unpack and even when the wrap was removed I was left with a very hard product with a very waxy taste, particularly towards the edge. Overall the cheese was hard and difficult to eat, only the very centre of the wheel gave me an indication of the potential of the cheese. As I said very disappointed.
I have tried two of these truckles both of which had very long use by dates (10/21) but they were both very hard and dry and virtually impossible to cut. I made grated cheese in the Thermomix . Pretty expensive grated cheese.
This is a really nice crumbly flavoursome cheese- but not overly salty like some old cheese can be.
Yes there is some dust, and it is a hard cheese, but the taste is very good. I like that it has that special rustic look which presents well on a cheese board.
The title is misleading and should be called match box wheel. I have always supported small producers and don’t mind paying extra but this one is over the top. The price of transport is above the price you could buy cheese in the shop of the same size.
Cheese itself was ok.
The cheese when unwrapped had a lot of smelly dust on the bottom as the cheese was disintegrating.
The cheese right in the middle is ok. Unfortunately it’s almost impossible to get to.
I can’t drive a knife through the outside.
It’s a bit like Parmesan that has been lost at the back of the fridge for a year.
