Grandvewe Gin Herbalist

"It's the circle of cheese"

Milk   |  Vegetarian

Let’s talk about the great circle of life - cheese life that is!

Once upon a time there was a cheese farm called Grandvewe. They made scrumptious cheese and from the whey, they made glorious gin and from the gin’s native Australian botanicals, they again made cheese! Introducing the Gin Herbalist crafted from a great circle of life between artisan cheese and boutique gin. Honestly, can you get a better match?

This is one fine looking, fine tasting, simply fine cheese that your cheese board is begging you for!

Modelled from famous sheep milk cheese crafted in the island of Corsica – the Fleur De Marquis, then rolled in a selection of herbs at its birth, the gin herbalist is a unique cheese, the kind of cheese you want to take out and show off to everyone. Like oh look at my cheese, it’s so pretty and tasty and nice and yummy and... You get it - we love this cheese!

Over the maturation time, these native botanical herbs will impart their flavours on the curd. Oh my cheesy goodness! Once this happens, you’ll find that heaven is a place on earth!

Who is Grandvewe?
Grandvewe is situated 40mins due South of Hobart overlooking the calm waters between Bruny Island and the "mainland" (as mainland as Tasmania can get). This family run farm and cheesemaking also includes a vodka distillery. Can life get any better?

How does it taste?
Enjoying Grandvewe Gin Herbalist is an experience giving you a taste of rare Australian natives with floral and sweet characters as well as Lemon Myrtle, Anise Myrtle, Wattle seed, and Tasmanian pepper leaf. With age the rind becomes dotted with grey-blue mould. The texture becomes softer, absorbing the savoury and herbaceous flavours of the rind striking a delicate balance with the warm, bright sheepy quality of the interior paste.  Oh yes it’s a combination of fancy flavours - your tastebuds will thank you!

Why Gin Herbalist is the cheese for you

  1. Buying Grandvewe cheese means you’re helping to support a very small family-owned cheesemaker who supports small, family-run sheep milk suppliers too!
  2. Sheep milk has twice as much protein as cow and goat milk, roughly 1.5 times the Vitamin B12, Calcium, Magnesium and Folate and four times the vitamin C than goat milk (there's none in cow’s milk).
  3. 98% of lactose intolerant people can consume sheep cheese with no digestive upset.
  4. Sheep milk is free from cholesterol and monounsaturated fat.
  5. A photo of you with your Gin Herbalist will make you look 97% more attractive on Facebook. We guarantee this.

Blessed are the cheesemakers.

    1. Each wheel is roughly 1.8kg. As this is a handmade product, weights will vary.

Best Australian Cheese I've had so far.

This was an absolutely stunning piece of cheese. Both my partner and I were blown away by the quality and taste. We will now always have this as staple in our home for any guests

    Winner cheese

This was a great tasting cheese - an intriguing combination of floral and sweet flavours, with a firm mouthfeel.
Was a lovely bit of luxury during Melbourne lockdown 3.

I was disappointed to taste the cheese, it tasted like feta cheese to me while I expected firmer and more mature cheese without sourish notes. Perhaps it was because it was travelling without a/c from Tasmania to Brisbane.

    Hi Natalie,
Thanks for your feedback. As this cheese was delivered direct from the Cheese Maker, we have had a couple of issues with Australia Post. We have recently taken the decision to cease all cheese shipments via AusPost and now only deliver in refrigerated vehicles direct to your door. In your circumstance, any future orders will be delivered in this manner to ensure freshness. Sam.

Love the firmness, the herbs that blend so well and the hint of gin. This is a special cheese that we have shared with friends and they are all sheep cheese converts!
